How to get tickets for a match at the Maracanã

Updated 22-10-2026

The short answer

Tickets for Flamengo and Fluminense matches at the Maracanã go on sale to club members first, and the rest often sell out online within hours, usually with a Brazilian CPF number required. As a tourist, the easiest way is to book through a local who arranges the ticket, transport and, if you want, a guide.

Who plays at the Maracanã

Flamengo and Fluminense play their home matches at the Maracanã. Vasco da Gama and Botafogo play there for some big matches. The derbies between these four clubs, the clássicos, are the most intense and sell out first.

How tickets are sold

  1. Club members (sócio-torcedor) get first access.
  2. Remaining tickets go on sale on the club's ticket website, often requiring a CPF.
  3. On match day, some tickets may be sold at the stadium, but big matches are sold out.

Which section to choose

  • Norte and Sul (behind the goals): the loudest fans, standing and singing for 90 minutes.
  • Leste and Oeste (along the sides): the best view of the match, more relaxed.
  • Away section: only for fans of the visiting team.

Match day tips

  • Wear neutral colours, or the colours of the home team. Never the rival's shirt.
  • Bring only what you need: a small amount of cash, your phone and a copy of your passport.
  • Arrive early to feel the atmosphere and leave with your guide or driver, not on your own.
