The short answer
Go early in the morning on a clear day. Take the Corcovado train from Cosme Velho or an official van from Copacabana or Paineiras, and book your ticket in advance. Corcovado is often covered in clouds, so check the weather before you go.
Three ways to the top
| Way up | From | Time | Good to know |
|---|---|---|---|
| Corcovado train | Cosme Velho | About 20 minutes | Through the Tijuca Forest, book a time slot |
| Official van | Copacabana, Largo do Machado or Paineiras | 20 to 40 minutes | Leaves when full |
| Hiking trail | Parque Lage | 2 to 3 hours | Steep, with a short chain section; go with a guide |
Best time to visit
- Early morning: the quietest hours and soft light.
- A clear day: check the forecast and the summit webcams; clouds can hide the statue completely.
- Weekdays: fewer visitors than on weekends and holidays.
Tickets
Tickets include the ride up and the entrance to the monument. Prices change during the year, so check the official sites or let your guide arrange it. With a private tour, the ticket, the transport and the timing are taken care of.
