Sugarloaf Mountain tour

The cable car up Sugarloaf Mountain, best at the end of the day when the sun sets over Rio.

Sugarloaf Mountain, Pão de Açúcar in Portuguese, rises 396 metres straight out of Guanabara Bay. Two cable cars take you up: first to Morro da Urca, then to the summit, with a view over Copacabana, the bay, Niterói and Christ the Redeemer on the other side.

Enzo times the visit for the late afternoon, so you are at the top for the sunset and see the city lights come on. If you want something more active, part of the way can be hiked: the trail from Praia Vermelha to Morro da Urca takes about 40 minutes.

What's included

  • Pickup and drop-off at your hotel
  • Cable car ticket
  • Private guide
  • Optional hike to Morro da Urca

Questions and answers

How long do you need for Sugarloaf Mountain?

Plan two to three hours including the cable cars and time at both peaks. At sunset the queue for the way down can be longer, which Enzo takes into account when he picks you up.
